The taxi tariff of Kampala sets out how passengers are charged for a taxi ride. The cost of your ride begins with a base fare of 2000.00 UGX. This base fare covers the first 1.00 kilometer of your trip. This means that as soon as you enter the taxi and start your journey, the meter will begin at 2000.00 UGX and you can travel up to 1.00 kilometer before any additional distance charges apply.

If your trip continues beyond the first 1.00 kilometer, there is a charge of 1500.00 UGX for each additional kilometer you travel. The distance you travel is measured, and the fare is increased according to the number of kilometers you go beyond the initial 1.00 kilometer included in the base fare.

In addition to distance charges, the tariff also includes a waiting time fee. If the taxi is stopped or moving very slowly due to traffic or at your request, a rate of 17500.00 UGX per hour of waiting time will be applied. This waiting time is typically measured if the taxi remains stationary or moves below a certain speed.
