n/aThe Melbourne taxi tariff sets out how much passengers are charged for taxi rides in the city. The cost of a trip is made up of different parts: a base fare, a charge for the distance travelled, and a fee for any waiting time during the journey. The tariff changes depending on the time of day.
From 5:00 am to 9:00 pm each day, the base fare to start a taxi ride in Melbourne is $5.10. For every kilometer travelled after the start, the charge is $1.98 per kilometer. If the taxi waits or moves very slowly, such as in heavy traffic, waiting time is charged at $41.64 per hour.
Between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am, the night taxi tariff applies. The base fare during these hours is $6.35. After the ride begins, you will be charged $2.20 for every additional kilometer. The waiting time fee during the night period is $46.26 per hour.
In addition to these charges, there are some extra fees to be aware of. If you begin your taxi trip from the Melbourne airport rank, there is an extra fixed fee of $3.65. For electronic payments, the additional fee can be up to 5% of the total fare.
